So how did drinking coffee become so popular and who invented the modern day coffee maker. It was first made my a metal smith it Paris by the name of Laurens. Of course what he made was much different compared to, today's machines but it was basically a percolator.

The first espresso machine was invented between 1820 and 1850 by a man named Louis Bernard Babaut. This was the first coffee maker that could make as many as 1000 cups of coffee in an hour. Espresso is a different process then normal drip coffee because it is where you extract the coffee by packing it and forcing pressurized water through it. It is much more concentrated and is why you only get a 1 ounce espresso shot that packs the same punch as a small cup of coffee.

Once paper filters were made to brew coffee in the 1960's coffee really took of and became a staple in homes across the world. This is because paper filters made it so easy to just pour coffee in them and run hot water through them to get a quick and fresh cup of coffee.

We have constantly seen coffee makers improved over time, as with any technology. Some people like the new machines while others still like brewing coffee in a manual process because they feel it produces better tasting coffee.
